Orangutan Veterinary Aid (OVAID) continues to support OVAG vets and their centres by the provision of medicines and equipment whenever we are able to do so.
In 2018 the charity supplied new digital x-ray equipment and ultrasound machines to the vet team at the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) Samboja Lestari. Additionally, full training in both radiography and ultrasonography was delivered through OVAID by experts from New Zealand.
Through a joint fundraising effort with Save The Orangutan (STO) over the last year a new x-ray generator and digital x-ray machine were also supplied to BOSF Nyaru Menteng. OVAID has ensured funding not only for training for this equipment but can guarantee ongoing maintenance for the future.
Digital x-rays not only deliver an instant highly detailed image with no complicated chemical processing but the anaesthetic ‘down’ time for the orangutan is greatly reduced making the whole procedure easier and safer for both vet teams and orangutan.
In 2019 the charity expects to continue its support by being able to deliver a similar digital x-ray system to the vet team at International Animal Rescue, Ketapang, West Kalimantan.
