Where We Work

OVAG operates at the heart of orangutan range countries — Indonesia and Malaysia — while collaborating with international partners around the world to strengthen the global conservation network.
Our Reach

Three Spheres of Impact

Indonesia

Home to 90% of all wild orangutans, Indonesia hosts up to ten rescue, rehabilitation, and reintroduction centers. OVAG has held the majority of its workshops here, with a formal MoU with Universitas Gadjah Mada since 2015. OVAG is recognized by IVMA as a certified CPD program.

Key centers: Samboja Lestari, SOCP (Sumatra), OFI, IAR Indonesia
Malaysia
The Malaysian portion of Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak) is home to ~10% of wild Bornean orangutans. OVAG has hosted workshops in Kuala Lumpur (2012) and Kota Kinabalu (2016), with the 2025 workshop held in Kuching, Sarawak.

Partners: Universiti Putra Malaysia, Sabah Wildlife Dept, Sepilok, Semenggoh, Hutan

International
Although most capacity building is in orangutan range countries, OVAG collaborates with international conservation organizations, academic institutions, and zoo partners around the world — a two-way exchange where all parties learn and contribute.

Partners include: Arcus Foundation, University of Minnesota, Wildlife Health Australia, Fort Wayne Zoo
